For many women the boardroom is often perceived as distant or reserved for later stage executives. This session seeks to change that narrative by exploring how board opportunities can be part of a broader leadership journey shaped through intentional connections capability building visibility and meaningful contribution over time.
Through an engaging panel discussion, you will hear authentic experiences from women navigating different stages of their board journeys. The conversation will highlight how professional expertise particularly in finance and accounting can be leveraged to contribute meaningfully in governance risk oversight strategy and organisational leadership.
This session is designed to help women see that board leadership is not only an aspiration but a pathway that can be actively prepared for.

Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the different pathways through which women can progress from professional roles into board opportunities, including formal and informal entry points such as networks, advisory roles, and governance exposure.
- Analyse how finance and accounting professionals can leverage their technical expertise, leadership experience, and governance knowledge to position themselves effectively for board contribution and leadership roles.

Norlela Baharudin is a seasoned corporate leader with over 35 years of experience spanning the energy, chemicals, quality certification, financial services, and creative media industries, both in Malaysia and internationally. Having held senior executive roles for more than two decades, she has extensive expertise in governance, risk management, strategy, finance, and organisational transformation.
Norlela currently serves on several boards and board committees, bringing valuable oversight and leadership perspectives. She is also actively involved in mentoring future board leaders through the 30% Club Malaysia, championing diversity, leadership development, and strong corporate governance practices. She is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).

Tengku Fara has over 30 years of banking experience across corporate and investment banking, Islamic finance, and sustainable/ESG financing. She currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) of three companies, including two listed entities, providing strategic oversight and governance expertise.
She chairs the Audit Committee of New Paradigm Securities and the Nomination & Remuneration Committees of Lagenda Properties and Cropmate Bhd. Her extensive banking career includes senior leadership roles with HSBC Amanah, Deutsche Bank Malaysia, Deutsche Bank AG, AmBank, and Kuwait Finance House Malaysia. She is also a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM) and the Financial Institution Directors’ Education (FIDE) Forum Malaysia.
Kam Wai Peng, CA (M)

With over 25 years of experience in corporate finance, financial control, mergers and acquisitions, governance, risk management, and regional accounting, Wai Peng has held senior finance leadership roles across Southeast Asia. She spearheaded the restructuring and relocation of AirAsia's shared services centre and successfully resolved tax matters with the Vietnam tax authority, resulting in significant cost savings.
She was also responsible for integrating the finance functions of newly acquired hospitals in Malaysia and Indonesia. As Group CFO of GHL Systems Berhad, she oversaw finance operations in Thailand and Indonesia. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with boards of directors on a wide range of strategic matters. Wai Peng currently serves as a member of the Board Audit Committee and Board Risk Committee.
