Summary

What does it mean to be seen, heard and valued at work? And is visibility enough to create a genuine sense of belonging?

Join CPA Australia and researchers from Queen Mary University of London, Coventry University and Monash University for an engaging evening of photography, discussion and reflection exploring identity, representation and belonging within the accounting profession. The event forms part of the Creative Accounting initiative, which uses arts-based approaches to challenge assumptions, encourage dialogue and explore new ways of understanding professional life. The evening will begin with an introduction to CPA Australia's Belonging Commitment and the importance of creating a profession where all members feel respected, connected and empowered to contribute fully.

At the heart of the event is a photographic exhibition featuring CPA Australia members and the diverse experiences, identities and career journeys that shape the profession. Through these images and stories, attendees will be invited to reflect on who is visible within accounting, whose experiences are recognised, and how representation can influence our understanding of who belongs.

The exhibition will be followed by a panel discussion featuring professional leaders, CPA Australia members and academics. Together they will explore key workforce challenges facing the profession, the role of belonging and inclusion in attracting and retaining talent, and how organisations can move beyond commitments to create lasting change.

The evening will conclude with audience questions, networking and continued conversation about building a profession where everyone can thrive and belong.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore the connection between visibility, identity and belonging in the accounting profession.
  • Recognise how belonging contributes to a more inclusive and sustainable profession.
  • Identify practical actions that support greater inclusion and belonging in professional environments.
