Join Trent Wakerley and Darren Kerr from Wakerley Legal for a practical refresher on estate planning, drawing on the issues and questions they encounter with clients every day.
The session will cover the fundamentals of wills and estate planning, capacity and what happens when it is lost, enduring powers of attorney, advance health directives and the potential for an estate to be contested.
It will also explore an important question for advisers: what actually forms part of the estate? Trent and Darren will look at how superannuation, life insurance, companies, trusts and jointly owned property fit into the picture – and where a Will does, and doesn't, apply.
A practical session designed to help accounting and finance professionals better understand the estate planning process and what their clients can expect when they seek professional advice.

Trent Wakerley
Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, Trent came to law a little later in life and was previously a Registered Nurse. Admitted as a solicitor in 2006 gaining experience in wills & estates, will disputes, elder law, commercial and property law. In July 2021, Trent became the sole Director of Kruger Law (now known as Wakerley Legal).
Trent assisted in developing and writing the Elder Law and Succession Law elective at the University of Sunshine Coast in 2016 and was been a sessional lecturer in this course. He remains a member of the University’s external advisory committee.
Trent is a member of the Queensland Law Society Elder Law Committee and the Rural, Regional, Remote Committee. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (S.T.E.P.) and a life member of the Sunshine Coast Law Association.
Outside of law he enjoys rugby league and surfing and is a Life Member of Kawana Rugby League Club and an active patrol member for Kawana Surf Lifesaving Club.
Darren Kerr
Darren has in excess of thirty years experience in legal practice. Darren was a partner at Lobb and Kerr lawyers in Melbourne for 18 years prior to relocating to the Sunshine Coast.
Darren is one of a select few accredited specialists in Will in Estates, having been accredited by the Law Institute of Victoria, in 2008. Darren advises clients in all areas of estate planning, estate administration and estate litigation. His broad knowledge in this area and commercial approach allows him to assist clients with the preparation of comprehensive estate plans and the administration of complex estates.
He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (S.T.E.P.), a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, Sunshine Coast Law Association and the Queensland Law society.
Darren is actively involved in the community and a number of community organisations. He is a life member of Portsea S.L.S.C, a member of Maroochydore S.L.S.C and a Director on the Board of Management of Maroochydore S.L.S.C. He is an active patrolling member of Maroochydore S.L.S.C.
